Ms. Emily A. Hansen, Associate Attorney
Ms. Hansen represents individuals in all aspects of family law including divorce, distribution of assets, parentage actions, child custody and visitation disputes, child support, spousal maintenance, civil unions, valuations of business interests, post-decree issues, and other matrimonial and family related matters and proceedings in DuPage, Cook, Kane, and Will Counties.
Ms. Hansen joined Botti Marinaccio, Ltd., in May 2015, after working as an Associate Attorney for another prestigious family law firm for two (2) years.
In April 2015, Ms. Hansen was nominated for the Illinois State Bar Association's Young Lawyer of the Year Award - Downstate. She is recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers as a Rising Star for 2015, a highly renowned distinction relating to her excellent work in family law. Only 2.5% of attorneys in the State of Illinois that have been in practice for 10 years or less are named to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list, which was published in Chicago Magazine.
As a member of the West Suburban Bar Association, Ms. Hansen is currently the Treasurer for the 2015-2016. In the Fall of 2014, she served as a Cook County Judicial Evaluator as a representative from the West Suburban Bar Association for the Suburban Bar Coalition's Cook County Judicial Evaluations.
Ms. Hansen is also appointed to the Illinois State Bar Association's Standing Committee on Women and the Law. In December 2014, her article "Illinois' Modern Family: House Bill 1243", was published in the Catalyst, an Illinois State Bar Association's Standing Committee on Women in the Law Newsletter. In February 2015, her article "Women of the 18th Floor: Cook County Probate Division" was also published in the Catalyst.
Ms. Hansen graduated cum laude from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History with double minors in Political Science and Paralegal Studies. Upon obtaining her degree, Ms. Hansen graduated from The John Marshall Law School in December 2012. While in law school, she competed in the National Veterans Law Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C. She was the Lead Production Editor for John Marshall's Journal for Computer & Information and Law, and was published in the Journal in 2012. She is the recipient of the George Trubow Award for Scholarly Writing. Ms. Hansen is a four-time CALI Award Winner in the areas of Family Law, Payment Systems, Products Liability and Federal Income Taxation.
Ms. Hansen was a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Ronald F. Bartkowicz in the Law Division for the Cook County Circuit Court, writing opinions and bench memoranda. Further, Ms. Hansen gained valuable courtroom experience and sharpened her litigation skills while she was a 711 Intern at the Will County State's Attorney's Office. She successfully tried several bench trials, and one jury trial resulting in guilty verdicts.
